You spend your working life tucking away money into a pension scheme with - not that you really think about it much - the assumption that when you want it you press a green button and maybe sign a form or two and, bingo, it starts to payi out. Put money in, take money out, how hard can that be? Turns out there's a humongous fee if you want to start drawing a pension (big as in four figures). Stonehill came to my rescue and held my hand, so to speak, and more to the point it cut the huge fee demanded by the provider in half. Still outrageous to my way of thinking but, hey, what do I know about pensions? Take that Prudential!
